MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC midfielder Raul Gonzalez III suffered a season-ending knee injury during 901 FC’s friendly against Louisville City FC on Wednesday, head coach Tim Mulqueen announced Tuesday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn the extent of Raul’s injury,” Mulqueen said. “Raul has worked hard this preseason and has embraced the community that helped mold him as a soccer player.

“We wish him a speedy recovery. Even though he won’t be playing, he will still be a valuable part of our club this season.”

Prior to joining Memphis 901 FC, Gonzalez was a standout player at the University of Memphis. The Ocean Springs, Miss. Native earned All-American Athletic Conference honors before signing his first professional contract with the Richmond Kickers (USL). Gonzalez spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons in Richmond scoring five goals for the club.

As part of the multi-year agreement, Terminix will:

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Professional soccer veteran Junior Sandoval, a forward from Honduras, is the latest to join the Memphis 901 FC squad ahead of its inaugural USL Championship season, Sporting Director Andrew Bell and head coach Tim Mulqueen announced Wednesday.

Pending league and federation approval, Sandoval joins defender Louis Bennett, defender Marc Burch, defender Wes Charpie, forward Heviel Cordovés, midfielder Raul Gonzalez, midfielder Ewan Grandison, defender Morgan Hackworth, defender Triston Hodge, goalkeeper Scott Levene, midfielder Dan Metzger, defender Josh Morton, midfielder Duane Muckette, midfielder Adam Najem, midfielder Leston Paul, defender Todd Pratzner, and forward Luca Uccello on the team’s 2019 roster.

“I’ve gotten to know Junior Sandoval very well over the last few months, and I am very happy to welcome him and his family to Memphis,” Bell said. “He’s a very good footballer, and I look forward to seeing him work with our coaching staff as we get ready for the first match on March 9.”

“Junior is a veteran presence who has been through the wars of professional soccer,” Mulqueen said. “He can play multiple attacking positions and is a goal-scorer and provider. Junior will be a very important piece of our team.”

Internationally, Sandoval has played for Colombian Primera A side Jaguares de Córdoba, where he made 14 appearances, scored one goal, and became only the third Honduran ever to play in the Colombian first division, as well as Honduran giant CD Marathón, where he made 13 appearances including a 2012 CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against MLS side Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field.

Sandoval also has multiple US Open Cup appearances with Jacksonville Armada FC in 2016 and L.A. Wolves FC in 2017. Since signing his first professional contract in 2010, Sandoval has also played for the Puerto Rico Islanders, the Atlanta Silverbacks, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and Atlanta SC.

Sandoval grew up in Alpharetta, Ga., and attended Centennial High School in Roswell before playing a year of college soccer at Georgia Perimeter College. MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC has added midfielder Adam Najem to its inaugural USL Championship roster, Sporting Director Andrew Bell and head coach Tim Mulqueen announced Tuesday.

Najem spent the previous two seasons with the USL Championship’s Bethlehem Steel FC, on loan from their MLS affiliate Philadelphia Union. With Bethlehem in 2017 and 2018, Najem started all 38 matches he played and had five goals, with three coming a season ago. His passing success rate was above 80 percent in nearly 3,300 minutes played over his two previous seasons in the league. He also logged five matches with the Union during that time.

Najem received his first international call-up to join Afghanistan’s National Team in August 2018.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Adam Najem to Memphis,” Bell said. “He is a quality player with lots of USL Championship and Major League Soccer experience. His technical ability and soccer IQ make him a good fit as we continue to prepare for our first match on March 9.”

“Adam is a fantastic player with exceptional play-making abilities,” Mulqueen said. “His ability to unlock a defense with his passing is top class. I am thrilled that a player of his caliber will be joining us.”

After spending time with the New York Red Bulls Academy since age 11, Najem’s rights were sent to Philadelphia on Feb. 8, 2017, in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, and he then signed his first professional contract.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Najem was a star at the University of Akron from 2013-16. In four seasons, Najem totaled 89 appearances (87 starts), scoring 33 goals and adding 29 assists. He was named the 2016 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and was a four-time first-team All-MAC honoree. Additionally, the midfielder was a Second-Team NSCAA All-American in 2015 and a Third-Team NSCAA All-American in 2016.

Najem’s brother, David, plays for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, which is Memphis 901 FC’s first opponent in the 2019 USL Championship season.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC has added midfielder Adam Najem to its inaugural USL Championship roster, Sporting Director Andrew Bell and head coach Tim Mulqueen announced Tuesday.

Najem spent the previous two seasons with the USL Championship’s Bethlehem Steel FC, on loan from their MLS affiliate Philadelphia Union. With Bethlehem in 2017 and 2018, Najem started all 38 matches he played and had five goals, with three coming a season ago. His passing success rate was above 80 percent in nearly 3,300 minutes played over his two previous seasons in the league. He also logged five matches with the Union during that time.

Najem received his first international call-up to join Afghanistan’s National Team in August 2018.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Adam Najem to Memphis,” Bell said. “He is a quality player with lots of USL Championship and Major League Soccer experience. His technical ability and soccer IQ make him a good fit as we continue to prepare for our first match on March 9.”

“Adam is a fantastic player with exceptional play-making abilities,” Mulqueen said. “His ability to unlock a defense with his passing is top class. I am thrilled that a player of his caliber will be joining us.”

After spending time with the New York Red Bulls Academy since age 11, Najem’s rights were sent to Philadelphia on Feb. 8, 2017, in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, and he then signed his first professional contract.

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Najem was a star at the University of Akron from 2013-16. In four seasons, Najem totaled 89 appearances (87 starts), scoring 33 goals and adding 29 assists. He was named the 2016 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and was a four-time first-team All-MAC honoree. Additionally, the midfielder was a Second-Team NSCAA All-American in 2015 and a Third-Team NSCAA All-American in 2016.

Najem’s brother, David, plays for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, which is Memphis 901 FC’s first opponent in the 2019 USL Championship season.

Pending league and federation approval, the 34-year old defender joins defender Louis Bennett, defender Wes Charpie, forward Heviel Cordovés, midfielder Raul Gonzalez, midfielder Ewan Grandison, defender Morgan Hackworth, defender Triston Hodge, goalkeeper Scott Levene, midfielder Dan Metzger, defender Josh Morton, midfielder Duane Muckette, midfielder Leston Paul, defender Todd Pratzner, and forward Luca Uccello on the team’s 2019 roster.

“Marc is vastly experienced and is a strong addition to the squad as we begin preparations for our inaugural season,” Bell stated. “We will be drawing heavily on his leadership and work ethic as we build towards the match versus Tampa Bay Rowdies on March 9.”

“Marc is the veteran leader that we have been looking for to steer us in Year 1, and his experience at the highest level makes him the perfect captain to lead the way,” Mulqueen said. “It is a coup for us to bring an MLS player still in his prime to the City of Memphis.”

Burch has played the previous 13 seasons in MLS since his professional debut in 2006, suiting up for the LA Galaxy, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, Seattle Sounders FC, Colorado Rapids, and Minnesota United FC. He has started 191 of 234 MLS games, and he also has 11 postseason appearances. With D.C. United, Burch won an MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2007 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2008.

Additionally, while with the Colorado Rapids, Burch was teammates with Memphis 901 FC minority owner and soccer legend Tim Howard.

“I very much enjoyed playing with Marc with the Rapids, and I am happy he chose to continue his professional career in Memphis,” Howard said. “His toughness, passion, and dedication will fit perfectly with what Andrew Bell and Coach Mulqueen are building in The Bluff City.”

Prior to being selected 24th overall by the LA Galaxy in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft, Burch starred collegiately at the University of Evansville from 2002-04 and at the University of Maryland in 2005. While with Maryland, he scored the game-winning goal in the College Cup championship against New Mexico.

Hackworth, the son of Louisville City FC head coach John Hackworth, played two seasons at Akron after starting his collegiate career at Syracuse University for two seasons. In 2018, Hackworth was part of an Akron team that battled back from a 6-6-2 record in mid-October to reach the championship match of NCAA men’s soccer before falling to eventual champion Maryland on a penalty kick in the 57th minute. During the postseason run, Hackworth contributed a goal in the MAC Tournament and another in a 3-1 win over Syracuse in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

“We are very pleased to welcome Morgan to Memphis for his rookie pro season,” Bell said. “I’m looking forward to seeing his continued development as a player under the guidance of Tim Mulqueen and assistant coach Ben Pirmann.”

“Morgan is an outstanding young talent with a high soccer IQ,” Mulqueen stated. “His versatility will make him a very valuable member of our team. Morgan is a winner, and we are thrilled that he will be joining us.”

As a senior in 2018, Hackworth finished fourth on the Zips with four goals, and he was third with 13 points on the year. In 2017, he ranked second on the team with five assists, which ranked sixth in the MAC. At Syracuse, Hackworth appeared in eight matches, and prior to joining the Orange, he was a member of the U-16 and U-18 Philadelphia Union Academy teams and led his team to fifth-place finish at 2014 Generation Adidas Cup.
