Memphis, TENN. (July 25, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC announced today the club has signed veteran attacker Jon Bakero to a short-term contract, pending league and federation approval.  

The 27-year-old midfielder returns to the USL Championship with 72 caps and 11 goals under his name in league play, mostly for Phoenix Rising FC from 2018-2021. The Spanish international most recently had a stop at first tier Bulgarian league side Slavia Sofia before play with Spanish clubs Pontevedra CF and Club Lleida Esportiu.  

“Jon joins us with a wealth of experience and has had a lot of success in this league previously,” said Acting Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “He has very good movement, finishing, and fits what we look for in a player’s character. We look forward to welcoming Jon and his fiancé to Memphis.” 

Bakero joins fellow Demon Deacon Bruno Lapa as the two goal scorers were teammates at Wake Forest from 2016-2017. Bakero was drafted fifth overall by Chicago Fire in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft after being named the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Recipient and ACC Offensive Player of the Year among several other collegiate honors.

Memphis, TENN. (July 23, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC announced Tuesday the club has signed goalkeeper Triston Henry on a multi-year deal, pending league and federation approval. 

The four-time Canadian Premier League champion and two-time Golden Glove winner joins the Beale Street Boys with 142 caps with 51 clean sheets in five seasons with Forge FC. In 2023, the Scarborough, Ontario, native led the CPL with nine clean sheets in 27 regular season matches while conceding the second fewest goals in the league. 

“We are delighted to have Triston onboard for the second part of the season,” said Acting Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “He will be another experienced goalkeeper within our goalkeeping group, and we look forward to Triston helping us achieve more success this season.” 

Henry also had successful stints at Quinnipiac University in 2015, the University of Connecticut in 2014 and Herkimer Community College from 2012- to 2013. He led the Generals to back-to-back NJCAA Championships in 2012 and 2013, finishing his junior college career with 29 shutouts, including in both National Championship games.

Memphis, TENN. (June 19, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC announced on Wednesday that Tim Howard has exited the club and has stepped down from his position as Sporting Director. 

“After a great five years with Memphis 901 FC, I am departing my roles with the club to pursue other opportunities,” said Howard. “I am extremely thankful to Peter Freund and everyone at the club for giving me the opportunity to help them build the organization from the ground up, and I am proud of our accomplishments.  I wish the club and the community a bright future ahead and will always remain a massive supporter of 901 FC.”    

An original club founder, Howard, a National Soccer Hall of Famer also served as the club’s Sporting Director since 2019. Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell will assume the duties of Sporting Director for the rest of the season.  

“It’s been an honor to have Tim as part of this club and we have built a lifelong friendship that will always be grounded in what we built together in Memphis,” said 901 FC Principal Owner Peter Freund.

Memphis, TENN. (June 17, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC will celebrate the mid-south LGBTQ+ community in the club’s annual Pride Night on Friday, June 28 at AutoZone Park as the club hosts Phoenix Rising FC.   

Memphis 901 FC is working with nine organizations across the mid-south to raise awareness and funds for the LGBTQ+ community. The club will host pre-match Pride festivities at AutoZone Park as Mid-South Pride’s Elijah Townsend performs the national anthem. Mid-South Pride will also perform the pre-match ball delivery. 

The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a special 901 FC rally towel sponsored by Mid-South Pride, Tennessee Equality Project and the Law Office of John D. Smith.

Memphis, TENN. (May 29, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC announced on Wednesday the club has acquired defender Nick DePuy via short-term loan from Huntsville City FC, pending league and federation approval. 

“We are pleased to welcome Nick to our group,” said Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “We have a run of games coming up where it makes sense for us to add an experienced professional like Nick to the group. We appreciate our friends in Huntsville working with us to make this happen and look forward to a big contribution from Nick.” 

The 29-year-old defender will join Memphis on loan after singing with Nashville SC MLS Next Pro affiliate Huntsville SC last week. DePuy spent three seasons with LA Galaxy making 59 appearances and 47 starts in the MLS before being traded to Nashville. DePuy missed the 2023 MLS season with an Achilles injury.  

DePuy was selected 19th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft to CF Montréal out of UC Santa Barbara. He signed with LA Galaxy II before making 26 appearances in the USL Championship in 2019. 

DePuy will be available for selection this Saturday as Memphis 901 FC faces San Antonio FC on the road at 8 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the match on ESPN+ or WMC 5 Plus.

Memphis, Tenn. (May 9, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC announced Thursday the club will host the Third Annual Open Community Training event at Mike Rose Soccer Complex on May 23 at 6 p.m. CT. 

Fans are invited to observe a full professional training session before joining the players on the pitch for pictures and autographs, while youth soccer players in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in drills led by their favorite Beale Street Boy. 

“We created this event two years ago as a way to make our players and club more accessible to the local soccer community,” said 901 FC Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell. “The event is a great way for the children and fans in our community to get a chance to watch a real training session and interact with players. We encourage everyone to share this with their friends and join us May 23 for another great evening of soccer” 

Fans at the event can also enter to win 4-top all-inclusive experience at the club’s next home match against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Saturday, May 25 as well as a 2024 901 FC game jersey signed by the players.

Memphis, Tenn. (May 2, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC forward Neco Brett underwent successful surgery to repair a right shoulder injury on Wednesday. Brett will likely miss the remainder of the 2024 season with an approximate six-month recovery time. 

Brett is No. 2 on the USL Championship all-time scoring list with 81 goals prior to joining 901 FC ahead of the 2024 season.
