MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC today announced the signing of 23-year-old English midfielder Chris Allan, pending league and federation approval.  

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity. It is new surroundings backed behind a great group of players and staff that I can’t wait to be a part of,” Allan said. “I’m hungry to prove what I can do personally in my second year in the league alongside what we can achieve as a group.” 

Allan began his professional career last season with Atlanta United 2 with which the midfielder made 18 appearances and scored one goal in 1,442 minutes of USL Championship action. Allan missed the latter half of the 2021 season due to a surgical procedure to initiate the rehabilitation process for a hip injury.  

“Chris is a very good, left-footed box-to-box midfielder that can do it all,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “His range of pass is at the top of the league, and he provides a physical toughness to help us regain the ball.” 

“Chris was one of the top players on the Atlanta team in 2021,” Pirmann added. “You can see that in the standings: his team was a playoff club before his injury yet missed sorely when he had to go out. We believe that we have a true winner with him joining us in Memphis!”  

Born in South Shields, England, Allan developed his skills in the youth ranks of EFL League One side Sunderland A.F.C., amassing 30 appearances in the U-18 Premier League and Premier League 2 from 2015 to 2018.  

In 2019, Allan moved to the United States to play collegiately at the University of Charleston where the midfielder led the Golden Eagles to the Mountain East Conference regular season and tournament titles before claiming the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship. Starting all 17 matches of the title-winning season, Allan scored three goals and tallied three assists and was named All-MEC First Team and the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the NCAA Tournament.

“I couldn’t be more excited to get started in Memphis. I saw the support that the city showed for the team last year and I knew right away that it would be a good fit,” said Boyce. “I look forward to building a successful season with this group and giving Memphis something to cheer about.”

In two seasons with Union Omaha, Boyce racked up 45 appearances, six goals and 11 assists during the club’s first two seasons. Leading Omaha to its first USL League One championship in 2021, Boyce was named to the USL League One All-League Second Team and is the club’s all-time leader in appearances and assists.

“Devin was an All-League selection for Omaha in League One last season and guided his team to the title,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “His winning pedigree and energy will help us in every phase of the game.

“Devin is a player that is always on notice and simply makes plays,” Pirmann added. “He works his socks off each and every match, providing goals and assists while constantly pressing his opponent defensively.”

A native of St. Louis, Mo., Boyce initially played collegiately at New Mexico where he started 24 matches out of 39 appearances for the Lobos from 2016 to 2017 before transferring back home to play for Saint Louis University in 2018. At SLU, Boyce scored nine goals and recorded seven assists and was named First-Team and Second Team all-conference selection in his junior and senior years, respectively.

In addition to his time playing collegiately, Boyce suited up for Saint Louis FC U-23 and Colorado Rapids U-23.

Drafted by the New York Red Bulls with the 10th overall selection in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft, Seagrist made three appearances for the MLS side before signing with Inter Miami CF in Dec. 2020. Seagrist spent the 2021 season on loan from Miami with Indy Eleven with which the defender made 29 appearances.

“Patrick is a very athletic and aggressive left back that can get up and down effortlessly,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “We identified him very early as a key signing and are thrilled he has chosen to be with us for 2022.”

“Patrick’s ability to get into the attack with well-timed runs and excellent technique will fit perfectly into our structure,” Pirmann added. “We anticipate Patrick to be a massive part of our successes in 2022.”

Prior to being drafted by the Red Bulls, Seagrist was a four-year letter winner at Marquette where the defender started 63 of 65 appearances and recorded six goals and 16 assists. Seagrist was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team his junior and senior year.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC today announced the signing of veteran goalkeeper John Berner, pending league and federation approval.

Berner began the 2021 campaign as the starting goalkeeper with Memphis before suffering a ruptured right Achilles in June. Berner had started every minute of the season up until his injury and claimed two clean sheets in six appearances.

At the time of his injury, the St. Louis-native sat at third in the USL Championship rankings in saves and is now third in Memphis 901 FC history with 27 saves in a single season. Berner holds the club record for most saves in a single match with his nine-save outing at Birmingham Legion on May 15.

“John is one of the most selfless and hard-working individuals in all of USL,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “Despite a tough injury sustained in 2021, JB was still a massive part of the unprecedented season that we had. He will be back stronger and better than ever for 2022 as we continue to improve in every facet.”

Berner underwent successful surgery in the summer of 2021 and is anticipated to be back on the field for preseason training in February. 

“Thrilled to be back with 901. Thanks to the front office and Ben for believing in me,” Berner said. “It was a tough season watching from the sideline, but I can’t wait to make my comeback and continue the momentum we built from last year. Proud to be able to continue to defend Memphis.”

Selected by the Colorado Rapids as the 35th pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Berner made five appearances for Colorado before joining affiliate-club Charlotte Independence on loan. With Charlotte, he made 38 appearances for the USL Championship side and kept 12 clean sheets over the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Berner has accumulated eight years of professional experience. Following his time at Charlotte, Berner spent seasons with Phoenix Rising, Oklahoma City Energy FC and Saint Louis FC in 2020.

Prior to his professional career, Berner played at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he made 34 appearances over four seasons, had 10 clean sheets and kept a save percentage of 75 percent. He was named back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Year in 2012 and 2013.

“I’m really excited to get down there and meet the guys and coaches and get to work!” Buckmaster said. “Big things this year and I’m super excited to get started!” 

After playing every minute for Memphis following his signing in the shortened 2020 season, Buckmaster represented his native Indiana with the Indy Eleven in 2021. Buckmaster made 23 appearances with the Eleven last season. 

“Rece played every minute for us in 2020 and is back to be even better in 2022,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “He is one of the best lock-down defenders in all of USL and will provide strength and toughness moving us forward. 

“Rece has the ability to be a standout performer in USL and we believe he can take his game to another level here in Memphis,” Pirmann added. “He is also a high-character person that will lead his teammates on and off the pitch.” 

Buckmaster spent four years at Indiana University where the defender 82 appearances and scored five goals from 2015 to 2018. Following his collegiate career, Buckmaster was drafted 32nd overall by the New York Red Bulls in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. Buckmaster would go on to make 18 appearances for New York Red Bulls II in the USL Championship and later seven appearances for the first team, including the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Goodrum broke onto the professional scene in 2020, when the forward was selected with the 75th overall selection of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United FC. Making his professional debut with Atlanta United 2 in March 2020, Goodrum would go on to accumulate 34 appearances, six goals and seven assists for the USL Championship side between the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Shortly after being drafted by Atlanta United, Goodrum was signed to a short-term agreement with the first team in February 2020 which saw the Nashville native appear on the bench for Atlanta United’s Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 match at FC Motagua and later its quarter-final match against Club Am rica in Atlanta.

“Phillip is a handful of a striker and is timely around the goal,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “His movements are sophisticated, and he has the will to do whatever it takes to score goals.

“We want goal-hungry players on our front line, and we believe that Phillip is next in line to help us finish our attacks,” Pirmann added. “His selfless work ethic and technical abilities will provide him the tools to do just that.”

“I’m super excited to be part of the Memphis 901 family! I’m grateful for the opportunity to #DefendMemphis and give everything I got for the city and organization,” Molloy said. “I can’t wait to get there to meet the fans, staff and players as well as experience the city!” 

Molloy spent the 2021 campaign with USL League One’s Forward Madison with which the midfielder scored four goals and recorded three assists in 27 appearances. A USL League One All-League First Team selection in 2021, Molloy completed a league-high 1,615 of 1,874 passes in the regular season for an 86.2 passing accuracy rate and led outfield players with 237 recoveries.

“Aaron was one of the top players in all of League One last season and we are so thrilled for him to join our club for years to come,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “He has the ability to be a rugged midfielder but clearly has the class to score great goals while setting up plays for his teammates.

Opting to move overseas, Molloy played collegiate soccer at Keiser University where he earned Sun Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2016 before transferring to Penn State in 2017. With the Nittany Lions, Molloy recorded 14 goals and eight assists and garnered several honors his senior year including MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, USC All-America Second Team., Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team.

Following his collegiate career, Molloy was drafted with the 16th overall selection of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers. Molloy would go on to make 15 appearances for Portland Timbers 2 during the 2020 USL Championship season.

With the Nittany Lions, Molloy recorded 14 goals and eight assists and garnered several honors his senior year including MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalist, USC All-America Second Team., Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and All-Big Ten First Team.

Following his collegiate career, Molloy was drafted with the 16th overall selection of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers. Molloy would go on to make 15 appearances for Portland Timbers 2 during the 2020 USL Championship season.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC today announced the signing of 2021 standout midfielder Laurent Kissiedou, pending league and federation approval.

In a breakout 2021 campaign with Memphis, the 23-year-old Ivorian recorded four goals and five assists leading Memphis to its first-ever postseason appearance. Serving as a catalyst to a record-setting offense, 901 FC went 5-0-1 in matches in which Kissiedou scored or assisted a goal.

“I’m excited to be back. I would like to thank the front office for believing in me, especially Coach Ben,” Kissiedou said. “We’re back to continue what we started last season.”

Kissiedou earned 2021 USL Championship Team of the Week honors on two occasions—once in Week 7 following an assist against Indy Eleven and once as Player of the Week in Week 24 following a brace against FC Tulsa.

“Laurent is one of the best midfielders in all of USL and we could not be happier to have him back,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “He brings a unique ability to drive at opponents with the ball at his feet and is a nightmare for his opponents. We are thrilled to have him in Memphis for years to come.”

A native of Divo, Ivory Coast, Kissiedou began his domestic career with the Atlanta United Academy in 2016. Over the course of a year, Kissiedou scored seven goals with the U-18 team.

In 2017, Kissiedou was loaned from the Atlanta United Academy to Charleston Battery where he made his professional debut in August 2017 against the Richmond Kickers.

After returning to Atlanta in November 2017, the midfielder was subsequently loaned to Atlanta United 2 in February 2018. With Atlanta United 2, Kissiedou would go on to appear 46 times with the USL Championship side, starting 33 matches and scoring four goals over the course of two seasons.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced the permanent addition of former El Paso Locomotive FC loanee and 2021 standout defender Niall Logue on Monday, pending league and federation approval. 

After joining 901 FC on loan in June, Logue played an integral role in a stout 901 FC backline that guided the side to its first-ever postseason appearance. The Irish defender started 21 of 22 matches for Memphis, leading the club in blocks and finishing second on the year in clearances. 

“Last year, Niall was a great addition to the squad mid-season on loan and helped push us across the line into the playoffs,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “He has great ability on the ball and is a vocal leader throughout the season. Niall is truly bought in for our club and community and will be an even bigger part of this project for 2022.” 

“I am happy to be coming back to a place that welcomed me in with open arms from day one. The fans have been brilliant to me by welcoming and giving me my first ever song. So to be going back to a place that gave me so much love on & off the pitch it was a clear choice for me!” Logue said. “Ben had entrusted me with a lot of responsibility from the day I walked in the doors from El Paso mid-season on loan so I want to repay that trust back in full by giving my all & instilling the never say die attitude that the 901 are known for!” 

Born in Northern Ireland, Logue began his career in the youth ranks of Northern Ireland’s Institute FC in his hometown of Derry from 2010 to 2014 and spent time with the Northern Ireland youth national team. In 2014, Logue transitioned to the United States where he joined Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz. While with the Roughriders, Logue captained the junior college, was a two-time All-American and guided Yavapai to 10 shutouts and a conference title in 2015. 

Following two seasons with Yavapai College, Logue transferred to Ohio State where he continued his collegiate career. Over his two years in Columbus, Logue accumulated 3,379 minutes on 37 starts, a pair of goals and led the Buckeyes to a school-record number of consecutive shutout wins. 

After his time at Ohio State, Logue began his professional career back in his hometown with Derry City of the League of Ireland Premier Division. Seeing the pitch in four matches over his brief return to Derry, Logue was loaned to League of Ireland First Division side Finn Harps FC where he spent half a year on loan before permanently joining the side to begin 2019. Over his 24 appearances with the club from 2018 to 2020, Logue knocked in a goal and helped the side gain promotion to the Irish topflight in 2019. 

In 2020, Logue returned to the United States and Arizona, signing with USL League One’s FC Tucson. In Tucson, Logue started 16 times in as many matches and racked up 1,440 minutes. In December 2020, Logue joined El Paso Locomotive FC of the USL Championship where he did not make an appearance before being loaned to Memphis in June 2021.
