Memphis, TENN. (August 17, 2024) — Memphis 901 FC delivered a convincing 2-0 victory over FC Tulsa on Saturday night at AutoZone Park to rise to No. 3 in the Western Conference standings. 

The Beale Street Boys extended their home unbeaten streak to nine matches with the victory thanks to goals from Bruno Lapa and Samuel Careaga. 

Lapa’s pressure in the Tulsa third had opposition defense out of position before he drew the foul inside the box. The Brazilian playmaker stepped in for the kick and tucked it in the bottom right corner for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. 

Careaga doubled the lead with a rebound strike into the back of the net in the second half. Careaga has tallied seven goals this season with scores in three consecutive matches. 

Memphis put together a comprehensive performance recording nine shots on goal while holding FC Tulsa to just five shots overall. Memphis is now 8-1-1 after leading at halftime this season.  

901 FC moved to 11-9-5 rising to No. 3 in the USL Championship Western Conference with nine matches remaining in the regular season.

“We keep running into goalkeepers having the game of their lives. But lucky for us the guys kept going and banging on the door. I think we deserve to win the game and maybe a few more goals. Equally on the other end we were strong and didn’t allow many opportunities. So pleasing performance all around, especially after a decent amount of travel over the last week.”

On being unbeaten in the last nine home matches:

“It feels good. Anytime you’re at home and you can make it difficult for teams it’s a positive. It’s something we need to make sure we can keep as long as we can. You don’t get a lot of opportunities to do things like this. When you’ve got it in your hands you don’t want to give it away. It’s important when we come back in a few weeks that the boys are ready to win again. I think you’ve seen a team with real pride here.”

On the past week’s travel:

“The boys have slept in their own beds probably once in the last week. We’ve had a heck of a lot of travel but they’ve been ever so professional. It’s important now that they rest and recover. They’ve been great looking after themselves.”

On the team meshing after weeks with new additions:

“You saw the fitness of the guys there at the end and that’s been because we’ve been able to rotate slightly. Traditionally we go with what feels like the best lineup when it’s rolling. The last three games especially, the whole group’s been involved which is great. We’ve got about 18-20 players that are capable of giving us something. The performance level has to stay high or they don’t play and I think you’re seeing them respond to that.”

On Samuel Careaga:

“He got left out a bit at the start of the season and he didnt like it and he’s reacted well in training like a lot of them have. He’s been really positive, his energy is good in the middle. He’s destructive to other teams. He’s good on both sides of the ball which you want in a midfielder.”

Miami, Fla. (August 14, 2024) — Memphis 901 FC grabbed a road victory with a 5-1 rout of Miami FC on Wednesday night at Pitbull Stadium, matching the club record for goals scored in a match for the second time this season.  

The Beale Street Boys rallied to even the score with an early goal in the 15th minute and poured in four more goals in the final ten minutes of the match.  

Dylan Borczak found the equalizer in the first half on a striding header inside the box. Panos Armenakas grabbed his first assist as a Beale Street Boy on a strong cross, picking out Borczak for his third goal of the year.  

The score remained even until the 80th minute as Bruno Lapa put Noe Meza through with only the keeper to beat. Meza’s shot hit the crossbar and rebounded off a Miami defender into the next for an official own goal.   

Meza returned five minutes later to put pressure on the Miami goalkeeper for an error that gave Nighte Pickering an open net and third goal of the season.  

Samuel Careaga grabbed a goal in his second consecutive match during stoppage time before Alvaro Quezada found the back of the net for the first time this season thanks to a through pass from Lapa.  

901 FC moved to 10-9-5 with the victory, sitting at No. 4 in the Western Conference with 10 matches to play in the regular season.

“Firstly it’s a difficult place to come and play. It’s never easy to come down here especially with the rain delay. I think the fitness of the boy with the second game in the week on the road. The energy with the rain delay and the substitutes were fantastic as well. That was a huge plus for us with substitutes coming on and executing.”

On answering an early goal:

“Panos’s delivery was great and Dylan made a run inside. I think the boys have shown that spirit all year and even at Charleston we felt we were in control until the red card. For the boys to bounce back, we’re delighted with it.”

On the mindset of the team of the field:

“I think there’s a positivity in the team. I think there’s a sure positivity in the group and a belief that we’re going to go win. I think you can see they enjoyed it as well which is brilliant when you’ve got a group that’s been on the road for three or four days.”

On Saturday’s match at AutoZone Park:

“I think after a win the boys will be itching to play against a Tulsa team that was winning at halftime against New Mexico. We know it’s going to be difficult. They’ll come in on a high regardless of what happens late in that game. They‘ll believe that they can come in and win. We’re looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to playing at home again.”

Charleston, SC (August 10, 2024) — Memphis 901 FC fell to Charleston Battery 3-1 in an attacking battle on Saturday night at Patriots Point Soccer Complex. 

Charleston found the back of the net first with Nick Markanich scoring his league-leading 21^st goal of the season in the 41st minute. 

Memphis would answer quickly in the second half with an equalizer from Samuel Careaga in the 50^th minute. AB Cissoko played a smart pass in to the center of the Charleston box for Careaga to take two touches and beat the goalkeeper and notch his fifth goal of the season. 

Charleston would retake the lead in the 54^th minute and put away the match in the 71^st to grab the three points at home.  

901 FC remains No. 4 in the in the Western Conference Standings with a 9-9-5 record and 11 matches to play in the regular season. The top four teams in each conference host the first round of the playoffs. 

Memphis 901 FC’s road trip continues with a midweek match against Miami FC on Wednesday, August 14 a 6 p.m. CT. The club returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday, August 17 to host FC Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Memphis, Tenn. (August 3, 2024) — Memphis 901 FC played to a scoreless draw against El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday night at AutoZone Park. 

Memphis tallied 18 shots and six shots on goal but couldn’t find the back of the net. 901 FC held El Paso to only one big chance in the match, a second half strike saved by Triston Henry with an acrobatic dive. 

901 FC held their No. 4 standing in the USL Championship Western Conference with the draw pulling their record to 9-8-5 heading into the final third of the regular season. Memphis is unbeaten in their last eight home matches with five victories and three draws. 

Memphis 901 FC hit the road to face Charleston Battery at Patriots Point next Saturday, August 10 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Beale Street Boys are back at home on Saturday, August 17 to host FC Tulsa.

“We came in looking for three points and we’re disappointed not to get them. We have enough respect for the opponent and we know it’s difficult. There’s not givens that you get three points every night. It’s not a surprise when teams come in and they’re difficult to break down. I think we did enough to win, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. We were strong enough not to concede when they had their opportunities as well. 

Defensively, we were fairly sound but at the top end of the pitch we didn’t do enough with the opportunities we had to win.”

On Triston Henry:

“He’s done well. Not to say Tyler (Deric) hasn’t done well too. He’s come in and made some really good saves at opportune moments where the game could potentially be turning. I think his save tonight… It was fantastic. like i said the other day some of the saves were expected and the one outrageous one was a top class save. I’m sure he’ll go home happy with his clean sheet and his real part in it tonight. We’re delighted with what he’s given us here.”

On Panos Armenakas’ impact tonight and moving forward:

“I think the positivity that we know he has. I think he fit in really well and was dangerous when he came on. We looked like we were willing to gamble a little bit and more threatening strangely as we made better chances in the first half. We did look a little bit more positive and I think he can scare teams. He’s got that presence about him too. I think he’s going to fit in really well and help us as a team that has really good firepower. I think you can see he wasn’t truly fit the way he’s not been training and playing in the past weeks. I think he got almost cast aside over there judging by what they were saying. We’re paying the price for that a little bit but we’re delighted he’s here and looking forward to what he’s going to give us.”

Memphis, TENN. (July 27, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC grabbed three points with a 1-0 victory over San Antonio FC on Saturday night at AutoZone Park. 

A first-half goal from Samuel Careaga and a strong debut from Triston Henry proved to be the decisive factors in the tight Western Conference matchup. 

The two clubs battled in a defensive bout until Samuel Careaga put Memphis on the board with a 31^st minute goal. 

After Nighte Pickering’s shot was deflected, Careaga pounced to get to the loose ball and fire a shot to the far post with a left-footed strike. The score marked the Argentinian international’s fourth goal of the season. Memphis limited San Antonio to two shots in the first half. 

The goal from Careaga ignited the dangerous Memphis attack for the remainder of the match. Goalkeeper Triston Henry impressed on debut with five saves in a clean sheet performance from the defense, including a spectacular diving save to deny a stoppage time equalizer. 

901 FC moved to 9-8-4 with the victory, good for No. 4 in the USL Championship Western Conference. Memphis is now 7-1-1 this season after leading at halftime.

“Really proud of the team. Like you said we were short handed today. We had guys sitting on the bench that were nowhere near fit to play. We end up using Aren Seeger as a runner at the end of the game. The whole squad has been seen tonight. We’ll get a couple back next week, which is really nice. But for that group of players, I’m so proud of them. It was unbelievable.”

On Triston Henry’s debut in goal:

“He did everything that we were hoping. It’s obviously difficult coming into a new stadium and new team. Great performance fitting right into the group. When new boys come in and join, you’re really happy when they get a win and play a huge part in it as well.”

On the toughness of the group tonight:

We knew it was going to be a dig in game. We told them that beforehand. At halftime, we reiterated that and I think you could see the spirit in the group tonight. The new boys feel it, the fans feel it and the players are delighted. I think you can hear the noise from the locker room.”

On Jon Bakero’s debut:

“Jon was amazing. His hold up play was great. He’s playing against three top center backs as well. They’ve got some top players. He was battered around a little bit but his hold up play was great, bringing people in and he was a threat as well. We’re happy with him. I’m sure he’ll be happy with his part in the win as well.”

On the crowd tonight:

There was a lot of noise from the crowd tonight as well. They can feel it when we’re up against things. San Antonio come in tonight and got into it. The crowd was a huge part of the win tonight so hopefully they enjoyed the fireworks and we see them here next week for more of the same.”

Tulsa, OKLA. (July 20, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC suffered a 1-0 loss in a tight contest against FC Tulsa on Saturday night at ONEOK Stadium. 

A defensive battle in the first half came to a head as Tulsa broke the deadlock in the 41^st minute. Attacking on a counter, Tulsa used a precise cross and a back heel finish from Phillip Goodrum to take the lead just before the halftime whistle. 

901 FC put together a strong attack in the second half grabbing 58% of the possession and most of the chances. Emerson Hyndman brought Memphis their closest equalizer chance in the 68^th minute with his right-footed shot from outside the box curling just by the left post. 

Memphis moved to 8-8-4 with the loss remaining at No. 4 in the USL Championship Western Conference.

Memphis returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday, July 27 for Back to School Night followed by post-match fireworks. Fans can donate school supplies for Shelby County School District students at the AutoZone Park team store from Monday through the end of Saturday’s match.

Detroit, Mich. (July 13, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC grabbed three points on the road with a 1-0 victory over Detroit City FC on Saturday afternoon at Keyworth Stadium. 

Bruno Lapa was the hero in the 86^th minute using a one-touch volley to give Memphis the decisive lead in the clutch. Lapa tied Marlon with his team-leading seventh goal of the season while Alvaro Quezada’s cross into the box marks his second assist of the season. 

Memphis’ defense matched their attack, preventing Detroit from recording a single shot on goal to hand their Eastern Conference foes just their second home loss of the season. 901 FC moved to 8-7-4 with the victory to climb to No. 4 in the USL Championship Western Conference after 19 matches. Memphis is unbeaten in 11 of their last 13 matches.

“I think it really highlights the fight these guys have today. Especially against a really spirited detroit team as well. It’s a tough place to go and perform. I think the boys responded to every adversity that was put in front of us today. It’s a really positive performance to be able to grind out a win. Not many teams come to detroit and win a fight game so that’s a really pleasing aspect in our group of boys to be able to win like that.”

“To be able to do it on Pete Pranica’s 60th birthday. To get three points and bring them back is huge for us. He’s a big part of the Memphis community for us. We’re grateful for everything he does for us and glad to be able to win on his 60th birthday.”

On preventing a single shot on target:

“Tyler was actually really sick at the end and had to be walked off the pitch. But the resilience and level head, he was vocal at the back. We had a back four, a back five, a back three throughout the game. We had to juggle a lot but the defenders dealt with everything that came at them. And the midfield in front of them were strong. The forwards prevented any quality from coming at them. The whole team got their reward for that it was brilliant. Really, Really happy for the whole team.”

On reserves coming in the game to make a difference:

“It shows the importance of the group tonight. You never know when it’s going to be your chance. Everyone grabbed their opportunity today. The group has been ready and we’ve been training ever so well. I think that showed in their performance level tonight.”

Irvine, CALIF. (July 6, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC fell 4-1 to Orange County SC on Saturday night at Champions Soccer Stadium. 

Three first half goals from Orange County proved decisive as Memphis lost just their third game since April 20. 

Dylan Borczak prevented the shutout in the 89^th minute with his second goal of the season. Memphis moved to 7-7-4 with the loss and sit at No. 6 in the USL Championship Western Conference Standings. 

Memphis 901 FC’s three-match road trip continues on Saturday, July 13 with a showdown against Detroit City FC at 6 p.m. CT. Memphis returns to AutoZone Park on Saturday, July 27 for Back to School Night followed by post-match fireworks.

Memphis, TENN. (June 28, 2024) – Memphis 901 FC tied a franchise record with five goals in a dominant 5-1 victory over Phoenix Rising on Friday night at AutoZone Park. 

The Beale Street Boys put on an attacking clinic, showing why they’re the top-scoring team in the Western Conference with goals from Zac Duncan, Marlon, Carson Vom Steeg, Emerson Hyndman and Nighte Pickering. 

In the 11^th minute, Akeem Ward lined up a cross from the left wing to find Duncan for the right footed finish on the volley. The Aussie midfielder tallied his first goal with Memphis tonight after grabbing his first assist last week. Memphis has scored six goals in the first 15 minutes of action this season, the most in the USL Championship. 

Memphis doubled the lead with excellent build up play in the opposition box. Carson Vom Steeg put in a spectacular pass to Marlon for a finish into the empty net. Marlon tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the season. 

Memphis leads the league with 16 first-half goals in 17 matches. 901 FC held Phoenix to only one shot in the first half while pouring in five shots on goal. 

Vom Steeg, Hyndman and Pickering made the lead insurmountable with goals in the second half. Vom Steeg and Hyndman tallied their first goals while Pickering scored his second. 

901 FC climbed to No. 3 in the Western Conference with the victory.

On tonight’s performance:

“I think we came out of the traps really well and were aggressive at the start. The quality on the ball was some of the best that it’s been all season. It’s really good to see we kept our foot on it as well. I don’t think we sat off what we think is a good team. We felt it there last year and they felt it here this year. I’m sure they’ll be difficult when we go there next time because they don’t like what happened tonight.”

On the difference in tonight’s approach:

“Nothing different. It’s been good all season and we’re getting the rewards for the work that we’ve put in. I think we felt like we deserved the three points last week as well. The group doesn’t cry about it and they keep on trying to win a game. You saw the mentality of the group tonight. I think they came in trying to be aggressive and dictate the pace of the game but our players didn’t allow that to happen. It’s a testament to how they’ve been with their work rate and quality and effort.”

On leading the league in first half goals:

“It’s an important factor to the game that you can start well and get on top but the games that we don’t, it’s important that we stay in it. We’re hard to beat, as you know, so if we stay in the game we believe we’ll have opportunities for our players to score. There’s a lot of positive lads in that dressing room. Players that love scoring goals, they almost live for it. Long may it continue.”

On Emerson Hyndman, Carson Vom Steeg and Zac Duncan getting their first goals:

“I’m happy for them. They had a lot of assists and near goals and goalkeepers making fantastic saves. Its great for the rewards to get spread a little bit. Carson (Vom Steeg) gets his goal, he doesn’t score too many. It gets spread around the team and that’s what we’ve got. We’ve got a team that plays for each other and fights for each other.”

MIDFIELDER EMERSON HYNDMAN

On his baseball goal celebration:

It’s something me and Zac talked about beforehand. We always said that if we scored on that side, we would do a little performance over there. My swings is not great but yeah it was fun.

On him and Duncan scoring :

I was thrilled for him when he got the early one and same thing for me. We’ve worked really hard all year and we’ve been a pretty good pairing in the midfield. Thankfully we were both able to get one tonight.

One the momentum from the victory:

It’s huge. We’ve had our share of performances without the results. It’s good to see it all click tonight with a good performance and a great win scoring five goals against a good team. So that’ll be a huge bonus for us and proof of what we can do.
