MEMPHIS, Tennessee (January 6, 2022) – Memphis 901 FC announced today the re-signing of defender Zach Carroll ahead of the 2022 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.
“Zach is one of the most experienced center backs in all of USL and we are delighted to have him back,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “Before his injury last season, he played 99% of possible minutes and will continue to be an anchor for our defensive corps.”
Carroll made 23 appearances and started 17 matches during the 2021 Championship season. In his 1,630 minutes of play, Carroll made 16 tackles and won over 68 percent of aerial duels.
“I’m very excited about returning to Memphis this season!” said Carroll. “The growth in the team from year to year is something I’m proud to have been a part of. I want nothing more than to keep the winning mentality and making playoffs and beyond a consistency with this club. Time to keep on Defending Memphis!”
The 26-year-old Michigan native has been a consistent presence in the Championship since he made his debut for the New York Red Bulls II in 2016. Carroll was named to the Championship’s All-League Second Team as he helped New York claim both the Championship’s Regular Season Title and the USL Championship Final in his rookie season.
Since then, Carroll has also competed in the Championship for Orlando City B and Reno 1868 FC, helping the latter to back-to-back postseason appearances in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Overall, Carroll has made 134 appearances in the Championship for his career and has over 10,000 minutes of action in the league.
