Memphis, Tenn. – Defender Mark Segbers has been named to the USL Championship Team of the Week Presented by Cleer Audio for Week 15 of the 2021 regular season. Segbers’ second Team of the Week recognition of the season comes as the defender dished up a perfect assist on Michael Salazar’s 48’ match-winner in Kansas City.
Gathering the ball nearly 30 yards from goal, Mark Segbers sent a curling, lofted ball toward the box to find the head of Michael Salazar who hardly had to move in order to send the ball into the back of the net. The perfect pass into the box gave Memphis the victory and Segbers his second consecutive multi-assist season.

Segbers built on his assist with an efficient afternoon as the defender led the team in touches, clearances and duels won. Tied for the most assists this season, Segbers also leads the team in tackles and is second on the team in key passes, crosses, blocks and interceptions.
“We are always excited to see individual players acknowledged for the team’s results,” Head Coach Ben Pirmann said. “Mark is a selfless leader and huge component of our club’s success. I hope he and many others are able to continue to earn these honors and more points as we progress.”
Memphis finds itself in the midst of a five-match unbeaten streak—just one shy of the club’s all-time record. During the run, Segbers and the defense have averaged less than one goal allowed per match. Next up, Memphis 901 FC will travel to Oklahoma City to face OKC Energy FC. Saturday’s match will kick off at Taft Stadium at 7:30 p.m. CT and can be seen on CW30 Memphis and ESPN+.
