MONTCLAIR, New Jersey – Fresh off the first in win club history, Memphis 901 FC will look to keep the momentum going as it meets New York Red Bulls II for the first time this Friday.
Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. CT. with the match airing locally on CW30 Memphis.
Memphis 901 FC (1-1-1, 4 pts) is coming off a gritty, 1-0 road win over Bethlehem Steel FC on Sunday. With the win, Memphis earned its first three points of the season and jumped into the top half of the Eastern Conference standings.
The decider came from striker Rashawn Dally, who scored his first goal as a pro soccer player and gave the club a boost on its three-match road trip along the East Coast.
Memphis has also established itself as one of the toughest defenses to crack thanks to stout play by its veteran core.
Defender Wes Charpie earned a spot on the USL Championship’s Team of the Week Tuesday following an impressive showing against Bethlehem.
Memphis has only surrendered one goal in open play this season, a deflected shot against Loudoun United FC.
Friday will be a homecoming for a few members of 901 FC, including head coach Tim Mulqueen.
Mulqueen is a New Jersey native and coached for the New York/New Jersey MetroStars (now New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer) early in his career. Goalkeeper great and 901 FC minority owner Tim Howard was the goalkeeper during Mulqueen’s MetroStars tenure.
Former Red Bulls II midfielder, fellow New Jersey native and 2016 USL Cup Champion Dan Metzger will also return home as a member of 901 FC.
Memphis goalkeeper Scott Levene also played for Red Bulls II in 2018 while former youth product and current Memphis midfielder Adam Najem, a native of Wayne, New Jersey, returns to his home state.
Since winning the title in 2016, Red Bulls II (1-0-1, 4 pts) has made back-to-back playoff appearances reaching the Eastern Conference final the past wo seasons. The club is coming off a 1-1 draw against top Memphis rival Nashville SC.
The Red Bulls II attack is led by Tom Barlow who has two goals in the season.
Memphis will return home Wednesday, April 10 to face Atlanta United 2 at 7:00 p.m. in a nationally televised match on ESPNews.
