Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC moved up to No. 4 in the Eastern Conference with a point in a 1-1 draw to Birmingham Legion FC on Wednesday night at Protective Stadium.
The Beale Street Boys held strong on defense while Aiden McFadden scored his first goal in Memphis following his two-assist outing that earned him a Team of the Week honor in his last start.
Memphis dominated the first half with seven shots, forcing the Birmingham keeper to make four saves while allowing only one shot from Legion FC.
Birmingham would strike first, however, in the first half as Prosper Kasim found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Memphis wouldn’t let their rival keep the lead for long as the club put the pressure back on as soon as they went down a goal.
A strong strike from Samuel Careaga forced a rebound off of the Birmingham keeper only to be picked up by McFadden with a one-touch finish into the goal.
Memphis moves up to No. 4 in the Eastern Conference standings with the tiebreaker over Louisville City FC. With four matches remaining in the regular season, Memphis has the opportunity to clinch their third consecutive playoff berth on Saturday.
Memphis 901 FC faces the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, September 23 at Al Lang Stadium at 6:30 p.m. CT before returning to AutoZone Park for another battle with Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday, September 30.
