Memphis, Tenn. – The USL Championship announced on Tuesday Memphis 901 FC forward Luiz Fernando was named Player of the Week for regular season Week 10 after scoring two goals to lead 10-player 901 FC to a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
The Brazilian international’s brace lifted 901 FC over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at AutoZone Park. Fernando found the back of the net first in the ninth minute on one touch off the left foot from a Nighte Pickering cross. The second goal, a game-winning chip over the keeper with two minutes left, was nominated for USL Championship Goal of the Week.
Fernando has been a key piece of the club’s current six-match unbeaten streak in the league having scored or assisted goals in each of the club’s last five matches. He leads the team with four goals and two assists in eight appearances this season and delivered the game-winning assist in the first victory over an MLS side in franchise history over Atlanta.
The Championship Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship. Fernando earned 33% of the ballot to claim the award.
Memphis 901 FC hits the road to face FC Tulsa on Friday, May 19 at ONEOK Field. Kickoff for the match is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN+ and WMC Bounce 5.2.
