Memphis, Tenn – Memphis 901 FC turned in a dominant performance as the took three points in a 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park.
901 FC spent the first 10 minutes of the match controlling 70% of the possession before Jeremey Kelly exploded on a 40-yard run thanks to a ball through by Chirs Allan. With only the keeper to beat, Kelly pushed the ball into the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Memphis held 58% of the possession in the first half with 13 shots, 5 on target, while holding New York to just one shot and three touches inside the 901 FC box.
Phillip Goodrum doubled the 901 FC lead in the 70th minute with a pinpoint header off of a crosser from Aaron Molloy in the 70th minute. The goal was Goodrum’s 13th of the season, improving his position in the race for the golden boot and extending his goal streak to four consecutive matches. Molloy notched his seventh assist of the season on the play.
New York’s Jordan Adebayo-Smith cut the lead in half in the 88th minute on a counter attack to add pressure in the final minutes,
Memphis moved to 13-5-3 on the season and is now unbeaten the last 22 matches when leading at halftime.
Memphis 901 FC finish their two-week match on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m. CT as Hartford Athletic visits the Bluff City.
