MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Memphis 901 FC begins the final week of the regular season with a Wednesday night match at Charleston Battery. Kickoff tomorrow night is scheduled for 6:00 (CT).
Despite a loss to Charlotte Independence Saturday night at AutoZone Park, 901 FC remains in the playoff hunt entering the last two matches of the regular season. With wins against Charleston Battery and Louisville City FC, coupled with losses by Birmingham Legion FC in its final two matches and a loss by Charleston in its finale after playing Memphis, 901 FC would claim the conference's final playoff spot via tiebreakers. Memphis would top Charleston on the first tiebreaker, which is total wins, and 901 FC would best Birmingham on the second tiebreaker, which is goal differential.
Should 901 FC secure a playoff spot, it would become just the third club in the last three seasons to make the postseason in its inaugural year (Nashville SC, 2018; Reno 1868 FC, 2017).
Tomorrow’s match at Charleston is a makeup of a contest twice postponed, first on July 13 and then again on Sept. 2. Memphis and Charleston played earlier this season on April 27 in Memphis, with Charleston scoring the match's only goal in the third and final minute of extra time.
After tomorrow’s match, 901 FC returns to AutoZone Park Saturday night for the regular-season finale against two-time defending USL Cup champions Louisville City FC. Kickoff at AutoZone Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Louisville match is “Pink Out the Pitch” Night presented by Baptist Cancer Center, with the first 5,000 fans receiving a free pink t-shirt with the 901 FC crest on it. Additionally, the club will be wearing special pink jerseys during warmups, which will be auctioned that night with proceeds benefiting breast cancer awareness.
